The City Council voted unanimously to approve my nearly $3 million Emergency Renters Relief Program. We must do everything we can to protect tenants against evictions and rent-gouging. Hard-working families and seniors are receiving enormous rent increases from unscrupulous landlords looking to make a quick buck before AB 1482, a new state law protecting renters, takes effect on January 1, 2020.

But our residents cannot wait that long. They are in crisis mode. My staff worked with Los Angeles Housing + Community Investment Department to create a program that will provide funds to help renters cover large rent increases for up to 3 months to make sure people stay in their homes. Thank you to my Council colleagues for their support, especially Paul Koretz for joining me on our motion to ID existing rent relief funds to support this program.
