Helping 600 Families Survive the Heatwavewith Summer Fun Packs & Fans

My office gave away Summer Fun Packs to 200 families in Council District 6 and fans to over 400 low-income families to keep kids cool and entertained as temperatures reach triple digits in the San Fernando Valley. Each kit contained a Fire-Hydrant Sprinkler, Water Balloons, Indoor-Hover Soccer, a Glow-in-the-Dark Flying Disk, a Hopping Ball and sunscreen provided by Baby Bum, as well as a box fan donated by Los Angeles Department of Water & Power!

With the COVID-19 Stay Home orders still in effect, our working-poor families and seniors with limited or no air conditioning will be hit hardest by the upcoming heatwave. Thank you to everyone who donated, and our partner, Mid Valley Family YMCA for hosting this event and for continuing to provide resources for parents and children in the Northeast San Fernando Valley.

Fans, water, baby products, masks, and hand sanitizer can make a big impact on health and safety for these families who normally rely on public spaces like libraries and public pools to stay cool during heatwaves. As we enter the sixth month of the pandemic, we will continue our efforts to support families with other essential items like food, diapers and laundry service. As long as it takes, we will be here.
