Today the Los Angeles City Council voted unanimously to end oil drilling within our city. This Council reinforced our commitment to environmental justice & to the health of all Angelenos. Our most vulnerable communities cannot keep bearing the burdens of neighborhood pollution.
However, we also cannot correct the sins of environmental racism by taking away jobs from working class communities. This morning, I put forward a motion to establish an Office of Job Quality Stabilization that would support Angelenos as they transition from outdated positions to new, fair wage jobs. As we work towards a city focused on sustainability, we must ensure that no one is left behind.
