Delivering Hot Meals & Toiletries to Families in Motels

Updated: May 4

I teamed up with family service provider North Valley Caring Services (NVCS) and Chef Robért Motion Picture Catering to distribute hot meals and essential toiletries to more than 100 homeless families who are living in motels along Sepulveda Boulevard in the North East San Fernando Valley. This pandemic has hurt everyone, but especially our families experiencing homelessness. Long before COVID-19, these families have been living on the edge of our economy in the best of times, and right now, they are incredibly vulnerable to ending up on the streets.

Last year, I secured $650,000 in state homeless service funds for programs that help stabilize these families through partnerships with NVCS, and other non-profits, the Mayor’s office, LAUSD and my office. A motel room is not conducive to a good education and growth environment for our children. Our long-term goal is to get them into housing and keep them there. This cannot be their normal.

I want to thank Chef Robért Catering Services for their generosity. They usually cater meals to film and TV productions, but on this day, they catered to our Northeast San Fernando Valley families in need. I also want to thank Manny Flores and NVCS for continuing to support homeless families through their daily outreach efforts, as well as their weekly drive-thru food banks on Thursdays and Fridays that feed thousands.
