NEW HOME FOR FIRE STATION 39

Van Nuys Fire Station 39 gets a new $37 million home! As part of her commitment to public safety, Council President Martinez worked tirelessly over a period of several years to secure funding for the new station and ensure that our community and our first responders have the resources they need to provide world-class care to our residents.

WORKING FOR YOU

In November of 2019, we christened the new Fire Station 39 in Van Nuys. Once the oldest active fire station in LA, Station 39 had long outgrown its old site. So I fought to push through and ensure that Station 39 has a home that meets the modern needs of our firefighters and community.

The original, and much-beloved Fire Station 39 on Sylvan Street, was originally constructed in 1919, and rebuilt in 1939. That station, located on a narrow street across from the Van Nuys Civic Center, could not adequately accommodate modern-sized fire trucks and apparatuses, and the current infrastructure needs of firefighters.

The new 18,533 square-foot station has enough room for two fire engines, one ladder truck, two rescue ambulances, and a Battalion Chief Command vehicle. The two-story, $37.1 million facility contains living quarters for on-duty personnel, fitness and wellness area, office space, a conference room, and an aboveground 4,000-gallon fuel tank.

Our firefighters put their lives on the line each and every day. The least we can do is ensure they have the proper facilities, equipment, and support to do their jobs to the best of their abilities. They’ve more than earned it.

Thank you Los Angeles Fire Department and all our partners, including U.S. Rep. Tony Cárdenas for his early support!
