Statement From Councilwoman Nury Martinez on Launch of Fifth LAFD Girls Camp

Annual Camp With LAFD That Introduces Teens to Fire Service

Los Angeles - Los Angeles City Councilwoman Nury Martinez (Sixth District) issued the following statement ahead of this weekend’s fifth LAFD Girls Camp:

“I am thrilled to announce the launch of the fifth LAFD Girls Camp. Since I was elected in 2013, increasing gender equity in our City’s workforce has been one of my biggest priorities. I am proud to host this fall’s LAFD Girls Camp with LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas, LAFD Battalion Chief Kady Kepner, and my co-sponsor, Councilmember Gil Cedillo. This two-day program is filled with hands-on activities with actual firefighting tools and equipment, as well as the chance for our girls to wear the uniform. It is critical to give our girls the opportunity to see themselves in a career they are passionate about. With programs like the Girls Camp, we bring ourselves that much closer to achieving gender equity and workforce diversity.”
