Sixth District partners with the Los Angeles Fire Department on Girls Camp

Dozens of young women from across L.A. joined me at Drill Tower 81 in Panorama City for LAFD Girls Camp. The girls learned about what it takes to join the Los Angeles Fire Department from some of the bravest female firefighters in L.A.

The girls picked up power tools and pushed themselves to new limits, climbing the aerial ladder and learning CPR. They tested their minds and bodies, and showed a ton of heart.

Congratulations to Jennifer Flores of North Hills for winning the 2018 spring LAFD Girls Camp Alicia Welch Outstanding Achievement Award! Jennifer received the award for her amazing dedication, effort, attitude and ability to inspire others. Bravo to all of the girls for stepping up this weekend and staying the course.

I would like to thank the talented cast of Station 19 -- a new ABC television drama about firefighters -- for visiting Girls Camp. I would also like to thank the fierce women firefighters of LAFD for partnering with me, and for showing the girls that no dream is too big and no career out of reach.

I was live on KTLA from Drill Tower 81 to talk about why I partner with the Los Angeles Fire Department every year to put on Girls Camp, and the difference strong female role models can make in a young girl's life. Watch:
