For Arbor Day this year, I partnered with City Plants, the State of California, and other members of our City family to plant over 180 trees by Van Nuys Recreation Center and give away hundreds more! As you know, I have been fighting for funding and resources to better protect our District’s parks and green spaces.
It is programs like these that not only help beautify our community but bring sustainability to our neighborhoods too. Our City deserves clean air, natural resources, and a nontoxic environment, which is why I introduced a motion in Council calling for a local Green New Deal. The newly planted trees provided by City Plants will not only beautify and increase our sustainability, but they will bring much-needed shade to residents and locations nearby. Thank you to everyone who came out! Be sure to join us again for Earth Day on April 27 when we will be planting trees at and around Sun Valley Recreation Center.
