More than 12,000 toiletries collected for human trafficking survivors

This year’s toiletry drive for human trafficking survivors was the most successful my office has ever held. Thanks to everyone's generosity, we collected a record 12,337 items! Toiletries can provide comfort to survivors, who are often rescued with little more than the clothes they are wearing.

I would like to say a special thanks to Galpin Ford, Walgreen’s (Arleta), Target (Van Nuys), the Sun Valley Area Neighborhood Council, the Van Nuys Child Development Center, the LAPD Van Nuys Division Community Police Advisory Board, Big Lots (Van Nuys), the L.A. Department of Transportation (East Valley Office) and the L.A. Department of Neighborhood Empowerment (Valley Office) for their donations.

I would also like to thank the students at the Rose and Alex Pilibos Armenian School and St. Genevieve School for collecting toiletries and gift cards for the drive. With so much already on their plates, these students found the time to help women and girls in need. No one asked them to do it. They just did. And their compassion is an example for all of us.

I was also touched by the kindness of my fellow councilmembers, including City Council President Herb Wesson, Councilwoman Monica Rodriguez, and Councilmembers Ryu, Krekorian and Price, who also donated to the drive. They are not only my colleagues, but true partners in my ongoing fight against human trafficking in Los Angeles.
