On September 21, I was joined by members of the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) - Los Angeles Professional Chapter, as I recognized them for their work to create a more diverse engineering field and supporting Hispanic Angelenos already hard at work.
It is organizations like SHPE LA that have helped develop and advance the Latino presence within engineering, and this is why so many are deciding to enter the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) today. SHPE LA is teaching young Latinos that a career in engineering is not only fun and rewarding but that it is possible. I can say without a doubt that their work is essential. The pedigree of excellence fostered by SHPE LA is a prime example of how a diverse workforce can be the bedrock of a thriving and fruitful City.
