L.A. leaders break ground on Valley groundwater treatment facility

I joined Mayor Eric Garcetti, Councilmember Paul Krekorian and representatives from the Department of Water and Power in breaking ground on a new groundwater treatment facility in the San Fernando Valley.

Once completed, the North Hollywood West Wellhead Treatment Project will deliver clean water to thousands of L.A. residents.

For too long, our families have had to depend on more costly water sources from outside of the city, due to past contamination of the local supply. The new facility will not only allow Valley residents to access the water under their own feet, but help to ensure a clean and reliable water supply for Angelenos well into the future.

The groundbreaking event took place on the 24th anniversary of the Northridge earthquake, highlighting the importance of having a local water supply on which all of us can depend.

Construction on the project is expected to wrap up in 2020.
