Keeping It Real With Jeannie Mai

In recognition of International Women’s Day and Women's History Month, the City Council partnered with the Commission on the Status of Women to recognize the exceptional women making an impact right here in LA. Whether they are raising awareness of human trafficking, working support victims of domestic violence, or are survivors themselves these women are heroes.

Not only do they fight for themselves, but they fight for each other. When their sisters do not have the strength, they carry the weight for them. I was delighted to welcome Jeannie Mai as my 2019 Pioneer Woman of the year. Jeannie is the Emmy award-winning co-host of the daytime talk show The Real. Besides regularly discussing feminism, advocacy, and Jeannie recently produced the documentary Stopping Traffic that raises awareness of human trafficking and inspires action to end it. Beyond that, she is an advocate for survivors everywhere. So, I wanted to highlight and celebrate Jeannie Mai for her commitment to speaking out on behalf of the most vulnerable women and girls in our society.
