Investing in a Better, Safer Future for Los Angeles

After weeks of careful study and hard work, I am happy to report that the 2019-2020 budget reflects my commitment to improving the quality of life for all of our residents. In addition to providing our residents with critical resources and services, this budget shares my priorities to combat workplace harassment and discrimination, eliminate human trafficking, and strengthen public safety.

This budget ensures that, for the first time, the Personnel Department is equipped with the staffing and resources necessary to ensure that any City employee who files a complaint of workplace harassment and discrimination is contacted within 10 days of submission. No one should have to wait and wonder whether their report was filed in vain.

In regards to public safety, I have ensured that we provide Fire Station 39 in Van Nuys with funding for an additional ambulance that is expected to reduce the Station’s 4:20 second response time by a full minute. In addition, I am thrilled to report that we are strengthening my Human Trafficking Task Force by allocating an additional $500,000 for its expansion to Operations-West Bureau. This is an addition to the already existing Operations-Valley Bureau and Operations-South Bureau. I am encouraged by the road map we have laid out for the year ahead in this budget. With more resources than ever, I look forward to continuing the important work of serving our fellow residents of Council District Six and the greater City of Los Angeles.
