Thank you Rene Eng and InFocus local news from Spectrum for putting a spotlight on this great and important program. Although we've come a long way in the fight for equal rights for women, we can always do better. Growing up, most girls aren't told: "you can be a firefighter when you grow up."
That's why each Spring, I partner with the Los Angeles Fire Department to present the LAFD Girls Camp. Over the course of a weekend in April, young women and girls are taught the basics of firefighting by a crew made up almost entirely of female firefighters and cadets. It's an incredible opportunity for girls to see themselves in the brave, dedicated women who make up the LAFD. I'm so proud of this year's class of outstanding young women! They reflect the incredible wealth of diversity that our City has to offer.
