When a couple of large tree limbs fell and blocked an alleyway that people use to get to their garages in Arleta, a few neighbors jumped into action! These neighbors made quick work of the fallen tree, and opened up the alley for the families that live there.
These neighbors decided to work with each other and create the Neighbors Emergency Response Team (NERT) to respond and help one another with quality of life issues in their immediate community.
During CicLAvia in the Valley, NERT stationed themselves on the corner in the middle of the route to hand-out water to people passing by. They were there simply to support the community that was enjoying the event.
NERT tells me that they are willing to do anything to help their community because they care for the security and safety of the children that use the sidewalks to walk to school, and community members who need basic services faster than the City is able to provide them at times.
Our communities are better places when we all work together! I applaud the work of NERT and all neighbors who come together to chip in and make a difference. Great job NERT!
