City Hall Welcomes Mariachi Tesoro de San Fernando

It was my distinct pleasure to recognize the Mariachi Master Apprentice Program (MMAP) for winning the California State Fair's Youth Mariachi Competition on Sunday, July 22, 2018. Founded in 2000, by members of the Mariachi Tesoro de San Fernando, MMAP was created by the late Señor Natividad “Nati” Cano, founder of the world-renowned Mariachi Los Camperos and the City of San Fernando Recreation and Community Services Department.

Instructed by members of Mariachi Los Camperos de Nati Cano, students are provided with the incredible opportunity to partner with masters of Mariachi music and learn from them. Since its inception, MMAP has empowered young artists with the tools and skills to express themselves through the music and traditions of Mariachi music. Through the study of culturally-relevant musical traditions, these students have discovered pride in their heritage while working to create truly beautiful music.
