I was so very proud to recognize the young women, men, and the coaches of Birmingham Community Charter High School who won four, count em’, FOUR City titles in soccer, wrestling, volleyball, and cheer. Talk about impressive! These scholars and athletes have put in countless hours of preparation and training, to compete and win against their cohorts.
Their perseverance has not only made them champions, but it has pushed them to academically challenge themselves, earning higher average team GPA’s than most of their competitors. For many of these students, they will be the first in their families to attend college. And they have that opportunity because of their academic and athletic efforts. They are the pride of their school, community, families, and this City. As the proud representative of Birmingham and Lake Balboa, bringing these talented young men and women to a City Council meeting for another victory lap was the least I could do. What a special day it was. As you can see, Council District Six is truly where champions are made!
