Al Piantanida was a real community leader in Arleta and Panorama City. He was instrumental in the efforts to get a traffic signal at the intersection of Woodman Ave/Montague St/Parthenia St. When Valor Academy opened their doors, it was clear we needed a light to help improve safety for their students, as well as others like the folks going to Calvary Lutheran Church. "Big Al," as he was known, worked tirelessly to improve his neighborhood. We lost him one year ago, and to honor his memory his widow, Gina and I unveiled the new "Al Piantanida Square" signs at this intersection. We were joined by many in the community, and it's a fitting tribute for his hard work in making this intersection safer for kids and families in the neighborhood.
Thanks to LADOT Official for making this happen. Also thanks to Pastor Walter Clarke from Panorama Baptist Church and Principal Maurice Regalado from Valor Academy Middle School for speaking. Thanks to Gina and all of Big Al's friends for making the unveiling a special tribute.
